Coal in Germany

  • Total 542 TWh generated in 2018
  • Renewable energy (solar, wind, biomass, hydroelectric) was 40.4% in 2018
  • Nuclear was 13.3%, and is due for phase out by 2022
  • Coal 38% in total (206 TWh), with domestic brown coal at 24.1% (131 TWh) and imported coal 13.9% (75 TWh). Although Germany has indicated an orderly long term exit from coal, the details of dates are unknown.
  • gas was 7.4%, oil & waste the remainder
